Danny:

Danny berated himself as he and Elizabeth's wrists were tied tight. Of course they had to tie my hands behind me. They won't take any chance of me getting loose to overpower them.

The pirates pushed and prodded them into town. As Danny stumbled along, he could hear loud voices arguing. One was Sao, but he had never heard the man's voice before. They got closer to the arguing voices; Danny could now make out the words.

"I don't care miss, you will not see a penny of the ransom until I see my daughter!" a man's voice said. His voice was loud, but controlled and cultured.

Very different from Sao's demanding voice. "Give me the money now, then you get the girl. Not before," she shrieked. What followed was an confusing yelling between the two. Each wanting to overpower the objections of the other. This went on for a few minutes until a pirate came up and whispered into Sao's ear. Sao suddenly smiled, a horrifying smile showing stained teeth and gaps where they were missing. She whispered back to the pirate and then turned her 10 watt smile on the ambassador. The ambassador was used to the many ugly things that happened with the affairs of state, but he still shuddered a bit.

An altercation a little ways into the town caught Ambassador Hascombe's attention. He was astonished at the sight of his beloved daughter in rags wearing a gag and having her hands bound in front of her. Her father sputtered, "What's the meaning of this?"

"This was the way we found her when we rescued her from the island. She has not been harmed by me or my crew. She is merely tied and gagged so she would not wander off and get hurt."

"Unbind her and take the gag off at once, you hear. And what of this lad that's with her?"

Sao responded with a shrug. "He is a no-account sailor from her ship. As a matter of fact, he may have pushed her overboard. He was alone with her on the island for several days. Who knows what kind of mischief went on. If you don't want him, I will keep him for my crew. He may be of some use."

The bound and gagged sailor's mind whirled. Oh great, what a future. I either get to join Sao's crew and become her 'pretty boy' or I get thrown in jail after Elizabeth tells her father what I did to her. And I don't have a say in the matter because I'm still gagged.

Elizabeth:

"Daddy, please don't let that evil woman keep Danny. He saved me when I was washed off the ship. He jumped in when he didn't have to." Elizabeth's voice was barely audible because she had just been ungagged and was parched. Ambassador Hascombe held out his arms for his daughter to run into.

Sao stopped her flight to freedom with a drawn cutlass. "The ransom, or else I keep her and sell her in Hong Kong. She would fetch a pretty price as an untrained concubine."

Danny heard what Sao said and was blinded in a white-hot rage. Elizabeth may be done with me, but I still love her and she is not going to be sold as a concubine! Danny lunged forward bumping into Sao. He knocked Elizabeth free from Sao's hold and she managed to run to her father. Sao hit Danny on the head with the cutlass's guard and the bound boy crumpled to the ground.

Elizabeth grabbed a hold of her father like he was a life preserver. I'll never let him go, never! Daddy will keep me safe. He came here to get me back!

Sao looked down at Danny. He was not moving. She spun and pointed her cutlass at the hugging father and daughter. "You've got the girl now, hand over the ransom and you can keep the boy too."

Elizabeth heard this and sputtered, "Don't do it Daddy, we found a treasure and she stole it. Don't reward the lying thief!"

Sao pointed to her crew; "How do you plan on not giving me the ransom Ambassador, we out number you three to one. Get greedy and I just may just sell your little girl to a bordello." She smiled an evil grin as she challenged him.

Ambassador Hascombe nodded to the officer next to him. The Captain raised his arm and the soldiers appeared from cover, surrounding the pirates and pointing their rifles at Sao and her crew. Sao's face flushed with anger as she realized that she was now the one who was outnumbered.

"You see before you the best of the Australian Mounted Foot soldiers. That is why they could catch you unawares and thus win the day!" The captain still had his arm raised, the soldiers waiting for the signal to fire. "Captain what do you say we let the pirates sail out of here with their tails between their legs. I really don't want bloodshed in front of my daughter." The ambassador stared at Sao until she and the pirates left to go to their ship, Sao taking her anger out on her crew with the flat of the cutlass.

The captain then told his men to stand down. Elizabeth and Danny were finally safe.

Danny:

I felt a cool cloth on my forehead. It felt so good, considering the pounding in my head. Elizabeth… the pirates… Danny leapt to his feet, then almost fell down as his head spun. Danny saw Elizabeth on her knees next to him holding a compress with concern in her eyes. He let her pull him down again and put the compress back on the bump on his head. This wasn't the way a stuck-up, high born lady would act, especially now that she was finally out of danger. Maybe she is just showing her gratitude, but I hope that she is doing this because she loves me.

Elizabeth:

He's awake! Get down here before you hurt yourself, you silly boy. "It would be a shame to lose you now after all we have gone through. Daddy, this is Danny, the boy who saved me. I love him and I am going to marry him."

Her Father scowled at the young hero. "I know you wanted me to become the Mistress of the Embassy, representing Great Britain at your side, but I can't live without Danny."

The ambassador's scowl deepened. Elizabeth stood up and stomped her little foot. "If we have to go back to that little island to live we will, and I would be happy too." She paused and looked deep into her father's eyes. "Well, do we have your blessing to get married?"

The ambassador scooped Lizzie up into his arms. "I suppose I had better give my blessing, my little girl has grown up." He set his grown-up little girl on her feet and reached a hand down to pull Danny up off the ground. "Welcome to the family son."
